I don't know about you but I love to cook and nothing is more irritating than
stumbling over my three four legged kids hanging out in the kitchen hoping
desperately for me to drop something.

What I have learned over the many years of having many wonderful dogs in my life
is that we have to treat them for being good. I always try to keep a cookie jar
full of goodies close by so that I can reward them often. When they start getting
in my way I simply say "carpet" and they all run to the nearest piece of carpet
and just sit and wait patiently. Then when I am finished doing whatever it is
that I am doing in the kitchen I go to each of them and give them a couple treats.

It has worked wonderfully for me with all of my dogs and my friends dogs that I
have mentioned this to. You really have to set boundaries when you are sharing
your home with family dogs to keep everyone happy.

Another thing is never ever feed your dog in the kitchen and never give them
treats in the kitchen either. This really sends mixed signals to your dogs. One

minute is ok for them to be in the kitchen and then next it isn't so just keep
things easy and don't give any food at all in the kitchen area.

I also do not allow them to stare at me while I am sitting at the kitchen table.
This will take some practice but if you keep telling them to turn around and lie
down and then give them a treat when they do, eventually then will get the idea.
After I push my seat back then I give them a really good treat usually something
that I saved from my plate if they were good the whole time that I was eating.
